English<\/strong>:<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

We look forward to an exciting Summer Term in Fir Class as we explore our new class text: The Corninthian Girl by Christina Balit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The story follows a young girl, sold as a slave, who is fortunate to be. She has no name and no home. Abandoned as a baby, the Corinthian girl grows up as a slave in Ancient Athens. But everything changes when her master – a famous Olympic champion – discovers her secret: she is fast, strong, and born to compete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most of our writing work will come from our class text, resulting in a combination of narrative, persuasive writing, imaginative fiction and non-fiction information texts. Our creative writing is underpinned with regular practice of spellings and grammar. We look at spellings which have common patterns and use a range of strategies to learn and recall these. Grammar work will link directly into the writing, to make sense of sentence structures, tenses and tools to make our writing that bit more purposeful, creative, engaging and exciting.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Mathematics <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This term, our Year 3 and 4 children will follow the White Rose Hub scheme, covering a range of essential maths topics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Continuing from their work with decimals, children will extend their learning to explore money, then time, shape and statistics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Across all units, children will focus on problem-solving and reasoning skills, building confidence and fluency in their maths learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alongside these, we place particular emphasis on our multiplication tables, partly in preparation for the national \u2018Multiplication Tables Check\u2019 in June, partly because multiplication tables underpin all the other aspects of mathematics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Science <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This term, Year 3 and 4 will explore Light<\/strong>: sources of light, how light travels, how we see and how shadows are formed. This is followed a unit of Sound<\/strong>, discovering how it is made, travels, and how we hear it. Through hands-on activities and experiments, children will develop their scientific skills, ask questions, and record observations, building a deeper understanding of the world around them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

R.E<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

his term in RE, Year 3 and 4 explore places of worship, focusing on a Hindu Mandir, Jewish Synagogue – comparing and contrasting this with a Christian Church. We then look at Pentecost, the symbolism and the meaning behind. The impact of Pentecost to Christians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Physical Education<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In PE, Fir Class will continue swimming until the end of May. Alongside this, they practise tennis and cricket skills, learning sport-specific techniques, improving coordination and enjoying competitive and cooperative games. The children will end the term with a unit of dance, which will be lead by Believe Academy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Geography <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Linking to our topic of Ancient Greece, this term\u2019s geography work will explore the country of Greece, its place in the continent to Europe, the physical landscape, human geography and the impact of tourism in terms of sustainability and change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

History<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In History, Fir Class will study The Ancient Greeks, focusing on the origin of the Olympic Games, their link to belief and culture in ancient times and their impact on modern day sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

French<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This term, Fir Class will use Language Angels to develop their French language skills. Children will learn basic vocabulary and phrases, focusing on the classroom. Through games, songs, and interactive activities, pupils will develop the knowledge and skills to present, both orally and in written form in French, what they have and do not have in their pencil cases and\/or school bags. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Computing<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This term, computing lessons use new technology and platforms to write for different audiences, before moving on to explore the exciting world of animation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Music <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Music topics for this term consist of listening to music, performing and composing using \u2018Just three notes\u2019. This is followed by an exploration of the South American Samba and then work stemming from the song \u2018Fly with the stars\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PSHE<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This term, Fir Class will focus Britain, From the perspective of democracy, looking at rules, liberty, and rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is followed with \u2018One World\u2019, where we explore similarities and differences in opinions, expressing opinions, inequality, and finally climate change.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Design and Technology<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In DT, children take the story of Theseus and the Minotaur as inspiration for their project. They explore and analyse different types of mazes, developing their research and evaluation skills, before designing their own solutions. Using practical skills and tools, they then construct a wooden maze gameboard, applying accurate measuring, cutting and joining techniques. Throughout the project, pupils refine their designs, solve problems, and reflect on how effectively their finished product meets its purpose.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Art and Design <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In Art, children will look at clay pots and vases from Ancient Greek times,\u00a0 examining the style, subject matter, designs and colours used. The will then design and make their own clay pot to reflect the Greek Style.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
