Ash Class – Summer
English:
In English, we will enjoying the story books Monkey Puzzle and Somebody Swallowed Stanley.
Children will be exploring rhyme and writing their own riddles to describe an animal from Monkey Puzzle. We will continue to explore our stories using story maps and stepping through the story, to enable the children to retell parts of the story in the correct order.
Mathematics:
In mathematics, this term in Reception, children are exploring numbers to twenty and counting beyond twenty, using a number line.
We are continuing to deepen our understanding of numbers to ten and revisiting number bonds to five. We will also continue to investigate sorting and sharing numbers into groups and spotting patterns and connections between numbers eg. doubles, more than, less than.
Science
This term in Reception, the children will be finding out about animal habitats and what animals live in the Rainforest. We will also compare some different habitats and find out about some animals that live in a desert. We will find out about the life cycle of a butterfly and what changes happen over time. We will also start to consider the impacts of recycling and how this is important to our environment. The children will also celebrate the work of David Attenborough.

Physical Education
In P.E. this term, children will be learning early tennis skills to develop their hand–eye coordination, balance and core strength. They will also take part in athletics activities, helping to improve their stamina, strength and overall fitness. During the Summer 2 half term, dance lessons will be led by Believe Academy.
French – Transport
Children will be learning French through the Language Angels Transport – Starting Off unit. They will begin to explore simple transport vocabulary, listen to familiar words and songs, and take part in fun speaking and listening activities. This will help children build confidence in hearing and using a new language in an engaging and enjoyable way

PSHE
In PSHE, the children will be talking about our physical and mental wellbeing, including healthy eating and exercise. The children will also think about how they are growing and changing and being able to talk about their feelings and the people who help us grow.
Music
In Music, Ash Class will continue to use the key songs Down There Under the Sea and It’s Oh So Quiet to explore pitch and rhythm. Children will experiment with beats using a range of percussion instruments, developing their listening skills, musical awareness and confidence in making and responding to sounds.
History
In History, the children will be learning about Mary Anning and her amazing fossil discoveries. They will find out who Mary Anning was, explore what fossils are, and learn about animals from the past through stories, pictures and hands‑on activities. This will help children develop curiosity about history and understand how we learn about life long ago.

Design and Technology
In Design and Technology, children will be exploring how to make simple boats, learning about floating and materials through hands‑on activities. They will also enjoy creating a range of sea creatures using recycled materials, encouraging creativity, fine motor skills and an understanding of the importance of re‑using resources.
